Life skills

What influences your life? How can you create good lives for each other?

One of the best things about folk high schools is the boarding life. At the same time, boarding life is one of the most demanding things about folk high schools. There are many people living close to each other, and then you get to know each other for better or worse.

At the folk high school, we use the opportunities that boarding life gives us to practice life skills. It's about figuring out how to live together, what's good to think about when you're with others, and figuring out how we want to feel.

Emotions, identity, relationships

Our identity is shaped in interaction with others, and therefore it is important to learn how to handle emotions and relationships. In the life skills classes we get the “theory” and at the boarding school we get the “practice”. Life skills at Fana folkehøgskole is closely linked to your everyday life at school.

We do this in class.

There are many different topics we cover during the year. Therefore, there will be a great deal of variation in the working methods. What is common to everything that happens at life coaching is that it is based on you and your life.

Here are some examples of topics that we cover in life skills:

  • How do we want it to be at the boarding school? How are we going to deal with room cleaning, corridor cleaning and other practical tasks that need to be solved? What kind of tone do we want to have with each other?

  • Boundaries and boundary setting

  • Food and meals

  • Community and participation

  • Intoxication

  • To be taken seriously, to have responsibility and to take accountability

  • Friendship and being a lover

  • Communication and conflict management

  • Self-care

  • Social media in our everyday lives

  • Life after folk high school and study guidance
