For us in Norway, freedom of expression and practicing an art form we are passionate about is a given. For Gato, it is not so.
Through documentary films, lectures, panel discussions and dance, we get to know Gato and his conditions as a dancer in Guatemala. The contrast between winning the Hedda Prize and the Critics' Prize in Norway, and subsequent death threats in his homeland could not be greater. M13 - often referred to as one of the world's most dangerous gangs - threatens Gato's life because he is a dancer. Through hip-hop culture, he has made his way out of the favela and out of the gang environment. But because of his dance, he is also seen as a threat for the recruitment of children as "future soldiers".
The production was nominated for the Golden Sack for best DKS production in 2020.
