On November 11th, we will be visited by Jewish guides who will tell us what it is like to grow up as a Jew in Norway today.
There are few Jews in Norway, and many young people have never met a Jew. In many schools, the word "Jew" is still used as a term of abuse.
As an enlightening and demystifying initiative, the Mosaic Faith Community has implemented the Guide Program. In short, it consists of two young Jewish Norwegians traveling to schools across the country to meet with students and talk about their experiences growing up as Jews in Norway, as well as the history, life and challenges of the Jewish minority. In addition, they open up for reflection and dialogue around surrounding themes such as identity, belonging and discrimination.
