Fana folkehøgskule marks the Sami National Day

  • Fana Folkehøgskule 190 Mildevegen Hjellestad , Vestland, 5259 Norway (map)

On Fana folkehøgskule We focus on diversity, cultural understanding and indigenous peoples' rights. That is why we mark Sami National Day on February 6th.

The Sami are Norway's indigenous people, and the day is an important opportunity to learn about Sami culture, language and history. Through the celebration, we want to create awareness about the situation of the Sami, both historically and today, and contribute to a more inclusive and knowledgeable school life.

The day is marked in memory of the first Sami national conference held in the Methodist Church in Trondheim in 1917. This was the first time that the Sami people came together to work for common Sami issues across nation-state borders. The day was first celebrated in 1993.
