Amanda Sailing

Linn Charlotte and Paul have traveled around the world in the sailboat "Amanda-Trabanthea". Now they come to Fana to tell about their experiences.

In September 2013 we left Europe to sail around the world. The plan was to set aside three years to see the world. The problem was that three years went by far too quickly... More than eight years have passed, and we have seen and experienced the most incredible things and made connections with people from faraway places. We quickly became permanent volunteers in a jungle village in the Pacific, and a couple of seasons ago we took a detour to Alaska and joined an environmental expedition through the Arctic. While the precious experiences have been motivation to continue, the wind has driven us across the great oceans and eventually around the globe. In August we finally arrived home to Norway by boat and could with a clear conscience call ourselves world sailors.

The Earth Sailors

Our crew members are Linn Charlotte and Paul, and we have named our boat "Amanda-Trabanthea". Linn Charlotte is a trained social anthropologist and has also worked as a teacher. Her dream of sailing around the world came true long before she met Paul, who is a music and social studies teacher. Ever since he was growing up, he has had a romantic relationship with the sea and stories about the great explorers.

Experiences from the trip

During our journey, we have noticed that the world is much nicer than the media at home would have us believe. Despite warnings, we have traveled to "dangerous countries" and have encountered nothing but smiles and hospitality. However, not everything was so positive. It is hardly possible to find places without traces of humans, in most cases these are footprints of plastic. Moreover, climate change is no longer a simple threat. Precipitation during the dry season, the absence of trade winds, sinking villages in the Pacific Ocean and the shrinking polar ice caps are phenomena we have witnessed. Fortunately, the nice, the beautiful and the unique are still in the majority.
